What Is the Heart Trying to Tell You? A Scientific and Spiritual Invitation to Stay Open
Let’s begin with a bold truth: the heart is not just an organ—it’s a portal. A living threshold between your personal story and the vast, unnameable current of life that moves through everything.
I’m not talking about love as we’ve been taught to understand it. Not the give-and-take kind. Not the one that hinges on whether someone earns it or loses it. I’m speaking about a love that just is. Neutral. Unbiased. Infinite. This love isn’t reserved for romance or relationship—it’s the baseline energy of consciousness itself. And the doorway to this force? It’s through your heart.
The Heart as a Biological and Emotional Center
Let’s ground this in some science.
The HeartMath Institute, a leader in the study of heart-brain interactions, has shown that the heart has its own intelligence. It generates an electromagnetic field 60 times greater in amplitude than the brain’s and can influence the brain’s processing of emotions and decision-making. When you're in a state of coherence—when your heart and brain are in sync—your body functions more efficiently, stress levels drop, and clarity returns.
In other words, the heart doesn’t just pump blood. It speaks. It regulates. It remembers. It creates rhythm not just for the body, but for how we relate to life itself.
What Happens When You Close Your Heart?
Every time you shut down—when anger rises, when you collapse into “I’m not enough,” when you play the role of the victim—you constrict that field. You block the flow of consciousness that wants to move through you. And it’s not just your own experience that’s impacted. Because this love is not personal, your contraction becomes a tiny interruption in the greater field of connection that unites us all.
It’s like turning off a faucet and wondering why everything feels dry.
We think we're protecting ourselves when we shut down. But really, we’re cutting ourselves off from the very energy that would restore us.
Staying Open Doesn’t Mean Staying Happy
Here’s the hard part—and the real invitation: You can feel sad. You can feel frustrated. You can fall apart.
But can you do it without closing your heart?
Can you let grief move through you without turning away from life? Can you stay soft when someone disappoints you? Can you hold your own tenderness without retreating into anger or apathy?
This is the practice. This is the lesson.
The Practice of Neutral Love
Neutral love is not a feeling. It’s a choice.
It’s the decision to remain open in the face of contraction. To let life move through you even when it hurts. When you can stay neutral—not checked out, not repressed, but truly grounded and open—you grow the flow. You expand the very channel through which joy, clarity, and truth arise.
This is not about bypassing or pretending. It’s about making room for all of it. Not to fix it. But to feel it.
What the Heart Is Always Trying to Say
The heart is saying: stay with me. Even here. Especially here.
It’s asking you to stop resisting life’s messiness and start trusting your capacity to feel and stay whole. To remember that wholeness was never about perfection—it was about presence. And that every time you open, even just a little, you offer something to the collective field that we all benefit from.
You don’t need to control life. You just need to stop closing.
Because the truth is, you are already love. Not in a poetic sense, but in a physiological, energetic, and spiritual reality. When you remember that, when you live from that place—even when things fall apart—everything begins to change.
Not because life suddenly gets easier.
But because you do.
Let this be your practice today: not to stay happy, but to stay open. Especially when it’s hard. Especially when you want to close.
That’s where the heart’s wisdom lives. Not in the feeling—but in the choosing.
